From the Twenty Views of Tokyo series (1925–1930) — Hasui's most prestigious documented series and the foundation of serious collecting. These prints document interwar Tokyo neighborhoods with extraordinary atmospheric sensitivity. Christie's is the most active auction house for this series, having handled 533+ Hasui lots. Series membership adds a consistent premium over standalone compositions of comparable subjects. Pre-war lifetime editions bearing the Watanabe copyright seal (A through G types, 1926–1944) are the most desirable.
Senzoku Pond, from the Twenty Views of Tokyo series published in 1928, depicts the small natural pond in the Ota ward of southern Tokyo — a site long associated with legendary warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who reportedly washed his feet (senzoku) in its waters. The pond, surrounded by a modest shrine and weeping willow trees, offered Hasui a quiet, garden-like Tokyo subject in contrast to the series' more urban riverside scenes. The oban format and bokashi sky characteristic of the Twenty Views series give Senzoku Pond's tranquil setting the atmospheric depth of a classical landscape in miniature.
