This print depicts the harbor at Ogi, a port town on the western coast of Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture, at the liminal hour before full dawn. Snow blankets the docks and moored fishing vessels, with the bare washi paper left to suggest accumulated snow on hull and gunwale. Hasui's characteristic predawn bokashi gradation—from deep indigo near the horizon to a pale, cold grey above—conveys the stillness of an overcast winter morning before the working day begins. The composition is part of the Tabi miyage dainishu (Souvenirs of Travel, Second Series), published by Kawaguchi and Sakai beginning in 1921, in which Hasui documented regional landscapes encountered during sketching tours across Japan. Ogi was a significant departure point for ferry routes connecting Sado to the mainland, and its inclusion reflects Hasui's interest in functional maritime settings rather than conventionally picturesque destinations.
