Saitama Prefecture's rural villages provided Hasui with landscapes removed from the modernizing pressure of Tokyo, and Tamiya Village offered the thatched farmhouses, rice paddies, and tree lines characteristic of the Kanto plain. This composition likely depicts a quiet agricultural scene—perhaps a farmhouse set against bare winter trees or summer paddies—rendered with the stillness Hasui brought to rural subject matter. The horizontal flatness of the Kanto plain encourages compositions with low horizons and expansive skies, giving the printer considerable surface area for graduated [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) effects. That two prints share nearly identical titles (see also the companion entry) suggests Hasui depicted Tamiya in different seasons or from slightly different vantage points within the same series, a practice consistent with his approach to rural documentation.
