$1,000–$15,000. Common landscapes: $1,000–$3,000. Key value factors: Kasamatsu's early shin-hanga works (pre-1955) tend to be more valued than his later sosaku-hanga production.
Cherry blossoms explode along the approach to Ueno's Toshogu Shrine, the stone lanterns of the path half-obscured by drifts of pale petals. Kasamatsu depicted this shrine complex multiple times, finding in the combination of seventeenth-century shrine architecture and spring cherry blossom one of Tokyo's most reliably beautiful seasonal spectacles. Ueno's cherry groves had been a public gathering place since the Edo period, and his image captures both the architectural permanence of the shrine and the brief, celebrated transience of bloom.
