Typical Price
The classic pairing of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashinoko in Hakone is among Japan's most photographed and painted views. Kasamatsu's Watanabe-published version typically sells for $1,000-$2,500 in lifetime editions. Fuji subjects carry enduring appeal in the print market, and the Ashinoko vantage point with its torii gate in the water adds compositional depth.
Description
Mount Fuji rises above the still waters of Lake Ashinoko in the Hakone volcanic caldera, the mountain's reflection visible in the calm surface while the surrounding forest descends to the shoreline. Ashinoko offers one of the most dramatic Fuji viewpoints in all of Japan — the mountain looms over the lake at an angle that makes its size seem larger than from any other vantage — and Kasamatsu captures this particular drama of scale and reflection. The composition is a classic of the Fuji landscape genre.
