Description

Snow at Shiba Zojoji Temple, a 1920 color woodblock print by Takahashi Shotei, shows a steep wooden trestle bridge crossing a river under a grey sky filled with falling snow. Two travelers in blue clothing and conical straw hats cross the bridge — one carrying a shoulder pole hung with baskets, the other a large open umbrella — while snow dusts the railings and the rooftops of low buildings visible in the distance. Below the bridge's timber pilings, a boatman wearing a shaggy straw cape and hat maneuvers a small wooden boat across the blue-grey water.
