Lake Ashinoko in Hakone, viewed in rain — the clouds and mist that frequently shroud this volcanic crater lake blending with the rainfall to create an atmosphere of almost total dissolution, the opposite shore disappearing into grey moisture. Henmi's rainy lake subjects are among his most atmospheric, the water from above and the water below merging in tone and texture, the rain creating a vertical pattern that breaks the horizontal expanse of the lake surface.
