The series format placed individual meisho-e compositions within a cohesive documentary framework, presenting Japan's regional towns and coastlines as subjects worthy of the artistic treatment previously reserved for celebrated sites around Edo and Kyoto. The Ishinomaki view shows the port town of Miyagi Prefecture under winter snow, likely from the Kitakami River's edge looking toward the town's riverside district.
