$1,000–$15,000. Common landscapes: $1,000–$3,000. Key value factors: Kasamatsu's early shin-hanga works (pre-1955) tend to be more valued than his later sosaku-hanga production.
The great Sanmon gate of Engakuji — one of Kamakura's most celebrated Zen temples — rises through tall cryptomeria trees, its massive thatched roof visible above the forest canopy. Founded in 1282 following the Mongol invasions, Engakuji remains the most important Rinzai Zen institution in the Kanto region, and its gate is among the finest examples of Kamakura-period Buddhist architecture in Japan. Kasamatsu's composition likely emphasizes the gate's monumental presence emerging from the surrounding forest.
