1880s Japanese Woodblock Prints
279 prints from the 1880s in our collection, created during the Meiji Era (1868–1912). The Meiji era brought Japan's rapid modernization and opening to the West, profoundly disrupting traditional woodblock printing. As photography and lithography arrived, ukiyo-e declined commercially.
